
National American Indian & Alaska Native Head Start Collaboration Office (NAIANHSCO)
Mission: The National American Indian/Alaska Native Head Start Collaboration Office is committed to assisting Head Start grantees in developing collaborative partnerships to improve the quality of life for American Indian/Alaska Native children and families.Goals:Using a strategic plan derived from the expressed needs of AIAN Head Start grantees, and supported by recommendations from the AIAN National Collaboration Advisory Council, the Collaboration Office will support Head Start programs to create and develop partnerships in the following areas:
- Child care
- Children experiencing homelessness
- Children with disabilities and their families
- Community services
- Education
- Family/child assistance
- Family literacy services
- Health care
- Professional Development
In addition, the Collaboration Office shall assist with
"a study or set of studies designed to focus on the AIAN Head Start-eligible population, with a focus on issues such as curriculum development, availability and need for services, appropriate research methodologies and measures for these populations, and best practices for teaching and education AIAN Head Start children." (Sec. 649 (k)(1))
